When it comes to giving back this holiday season, St. John of the Cross Parish in Western Springs took it to a whole other level of easy on Saturday. Those interested in donating to the parish's Harvest Saturday food drive had to walk no farther than their own doorstep, as members of the high school ministry drove to each home and picked up grocery bags of donated goods.

Owning her own custom painting company at age 25 is a dream Clarendon Hills resident Cathy Murray can't believe she's living. From creating murals of superheroes and trains in kids' rooms to custom artwork, Murray now works full time as a painter. "I've always had a gift of show me a picture and I'll do it," said Murray, who was born in Western Springs and graduated from Lyons Township High School.

Sisters to share stage in Midwest's 'Nutcracker'
For many, holiday preparations have begun. But at the Thiesfeld home in Clarendon Hills, dress rehearsals and costume fittings come before shopping lists and Christmas cards. For several years now, the two older Thiesfeld sisters, Lindsey and Lauren, have been cast in the Midwest Ballet Theatre's annual holiday production of "The Nutcracker."
